DJI got their foothold in the industry developing parts for FPV drones, but since they began releasing their own drone system they have brought the FPV industry years ahead through their incredibly immersive and intuitive aerial platforms.
Our Prolex videographers can’t stop sharing videos of the new DJI FPV and talking about its possibilities, so we thought we’d share the top reasons why we need it part of our filmmaking toolkit.
1. It’s a full-package deal with innovative additions.
The DJI FPV system comes with the FPV drone, an extended-life battery, 4K camera, a lightweight remote controller, and high-resolution low-latency FPV goggles. An available motion controller allows you to intuitively control the drone with one hand.
2. It is educationally intuitive.
One of the most intimidating aspects of FPV flight is crashing. That’s why DJI developed a realistic flight simulator to use with your goggles and controller, so you can get the hang of flying FPV before even putting your drone in the air. With actual drone flight, the DJI FPV has different flight modes, so you can master Beginner, Sport, Normal Manual modes before being totally immersed in the FPV experience with the Full Manual mode.
3. It can fly at top speeds, stop on the spot, and land with precision.
With presence in the drone racing industry, it makes sense that the DJI FPV can reach speeds at up to 140 km/hour and accelerate from zero to a hundred in two seconds. From a content creation perspective, this offers
exhilarating footage possibilities. The ability to switch from manual to normal mode via the remote to stop and land with easy precision, and the “emergency break and hover” button gives you peace of mind that your drone will pause and normalize to hover no matter what position you’re at.
4. It keeps going with extended battery life.
Most FPV drones have a battery life of four to six minutes of flight time. DJI’s FPV batteries have a flight time of up to 20 minutes, which not only gives you more flexibility for shooting footage, but also allows you to travel lighter without so many backup batteries.
5. Sharp video quality and smooth stabilization.
The camera records a 4K at up to 120 fps and 1080 dpi at up to 120 frames per second. You can shoot 4K with your lense as wide as 142 degrees or shoot ultra wide 150 degrees at 50 or 100 fps. The DJI’s stabilization rhythms are next-level, and the ability to change settings and record directly to the goggles (as well as the drone) will make any drone videographer happy. The ability to adjust the camera angle from your remote allows you to tilt the drone to hit those top speeds while keeping your camera level to the horizon.
Now that you know that you understand the key abilities of the DJI FPV drone, you can appreciate that the sky literally wouldn’t be the limit for our creative potential if we had one at Prolex Media. We can’t wait to get our hands (and eyes) on this amazing technology.
