In today’s highly technological age, it comes as no surprise that most businesses (and many people who don’t have businesses) run their own websites. After all, blogging is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after side hustles of 2021.
For those first getting started, however, it can seem very daunting to figure out where exactly to go to get your website, what to do once you have it, and what you should avoid if you aim to make money.
Luckily, we’re here to help. Here’s our step-by-step process on how to create your own website!
Step #1: Obtain Your Domain
Websites are one of the biggest moneymakers of 2021, what with all the various ways you can make money doing it. From selling products to passively raking in the big bucks from ads, there are several ways to make a pretty penny using a personal blog or site. Before you get into any of that, though, you must first obtain your domain.
Your domain is essentially the site itself. For example, our domain is “Prolexmedia.ca.” The best place to get your own domain is Bluehost, where they’ll offer you various options as you buy so you can create a site that’s perfect for you.
Step #2: Choose Your Site Name and Niche
As you’re purchasing your domain, you’ll be required to choose both a site name. In the grand scheme of things, however, it will always be better to name your site something that relates to your niche, which means you’ll have to choose that, too.
For site names, we recommend doing something that’s simple and easy to remember. This will help your viewers search for it when they want to read your content or buy your products. You also want to avoid using dashes, if at all possible. If the name you want is taken, instead of trying to modify it to get something that isn’t, trying choosing another name.
For example, “Prolexmedia.ca” is an excellent domain name. It’s simple and is also the name of our company. Could you imagine how difficult it would be to search for us if our domain was “Pr0l3x-M3dia.ca?” Pretty difficult to type in, right?
Step #3: Design!
Now that you’ve purchased your domain, it’s time to start designing your site. We recommend choosing text that is black or near-black (such as grey or dark blue) on a pale background. This will help your readers to see your content without causing unnecessary stress to their eyes.
It may also be a good idea at this point to hire a web developer, as they can steer you in the right direction as far as layout is concerned.
Additionally, you’ll want to go ahead and choose/design a headline and favicon (that little box on the Google tab—ours is a red P on a black background). All of these things will help your audience identify your site when they see it, increasing the odds that it grows to popularity.
Once you’ve got all these things down, it’s time to let your site do what it was made for. Whether that be to host blogs that you write or sell products you create, get those things posted and start making money!
